Rowing a Just Row

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

The simplest row of all is the Just Row.

On the Concept2 Indoor Rower, to do a Just Row you just sit on the machine, check the damper setting and change it if you want, put on your HRM if you have one, pick up the handle, and start rowing. The PM bursts into life and starts tracking your strokes, and also your heartrate if you have an online HRM. Time and distance both count up, and since there is no preset time or distance, you can just keep rowing as long and as far as you want. When you stop, you can record your row by writing down the numbers that are showing on the PM.

The simplicity of this is one of the strengths of the Indoor Rower - it's simple and intuitive, and it couldn't be easier.

Like the Indoor Rower itself, RowPro is also ready for a Just Row as soon as you start. You just connect your PC to your Indoor Rower and launch RowPro, and right away it's ready for a Just Row.

When you pick up the handle and start rowing a Just Row, several things happen automatically:

In the 3D display, the on-screen rower starts stroking in time with your own strokes, the on-screen boat starts moving along the course in keeping with the distance shown on your PM, and the 'camera' tracks alongside your boat to keep it in view.
The on-screen PM twin tracks the readings on the PM on the Indoor Rower.
The Charts track your pace as you go, and also your heartrate if you have an online HRM.

When you stop rowing you're invited to let RowPro know you're done by clicking the Stop Row button, which automatically records your Just Row into your Digital Rowing Log.

Note: Just Row results are saved to the rowing log of the user who is currently logged in, as shown in both the Session Setup and Control Center boxes. It pays to check and change this before you start rowing.

And that's all there is to it! Simple, isn't it?

Once you're done, you can view your RowPro Rowing Log anytime by opening the Control Center and selecting the Rowing Log page.

Note: None of the options provided in Session Setup are available for Just Rows.

To row a Just Row:

Pick up the handle and start rowing.
Use the In-row Display to monitor your rowing performance.
RowPro automatically detects if you stop rowing and invites you to continue or click Stop Row to confirm you're finished.
When you click Stop Row your results are automatically recorded in your RowPro Rowing Log.
Look at your results in your RowPro Rowing Log anytime you want after the row is completed.

When you row a Just Row:

3D Display

The 3D Display shows you moving along the course. The rows of buoys are colored the way they are on a real rowing course, with the first 100m and every 250m red, and the rest yellow.

Progress Bar

The Progress Bar under the 3D Display is inactive, since there is no way to know how far or how long you will row in a Just Row.

Charts

The Charts display your pace and/or heartrate according to the settings you choose by clicking the buttons on the black frame below the charts. The charts are logarithmic, meaning they show your complete session from the start, no matter how long you row, automatically compressing the x-axis in the older section of the chart.

PM twin

The PM twin exactly matches the real PM as you row. For Just Rows, it counts up both distance and time from zero until you stop rowing.

Targets

For Just Rows you cannot set target bands for heartrate, pace and stroke rate.

If you want to use any of these features, you need to use Session Setup to row a Set Piece, Training Plan Session or Custom Row.

Note: It is not possible to Analyze two Just Rows in your rowing log
